I don’t have a verse for this one. ‘Source? Trust me bro’
I have this internal processing system that does not allow me to move on to a task without completing the first one. It sounds productive, but it’s not. One task leads to the next and to the next and before you know it, I can’t let myself go pee because I have not finished editing, I can’t let myself eat till I finish a certain chapter of a book.
I was caught up in one of those moments this week, where I knew that I had a hair appointment at 12pm and that I needed to finish editing my YouTube video by 11am but it’s 10:32am and I haven’t read my Bible yet, and that sitting down to read my Bible for 30 minutes would not allow me to finish my video by the time I had to leave the door.
The trap of religion is that it might have you thinking that the obvious choice—and the one Jesus wants—is for you to read your Bible and work your video another time. However, relationship with Jesus provided another lens.
As I went back and forth stuck in my indecision, I heard The Lord say ‘Editing your video is also spending time with me, because I gave you those gifts. Sit down and edit. When you indulge in the arts and the crafts I’ve blessed you with, and when you steward the things I have kept you in charge of, you are also spending time with me. I just want to sit with you while you do so.’
So I sat, edited my video and listened to some worship, all while imagining Jesus in the chair next to me. It was a lovely time in His presence. The knowledge that it’s true that He’s with me all the time, and He would sit with me to read, or write, or edit, because He wants to be my friend and companion is so comforting.
There are times when you should dedicate silent moments to hearing from God (I say daily), but I think God wants you to know that going about your day, doing your silly little tasks and stewarding what God has placed in your hands is also another way to spend time with Him! I bet it means more to think about Jesus and worship while you complete a task than to read your Bible in a rush because you want to check it off your to-do list. Confining ‘spending time with God’ to only the limits of your Bible and prayer time, might have you missing out on some sweet moments with God.
So think about that this weekend when you’re out and about doing your duties as a child of God, student, mother, wife, etc. Know that Jesus loves you and is happy to chill with you while you go about your day. He just wants to spend time with you!
I really needed to read this. Thank you!
Lately I’ve been feeling very overwhelmed balancing my work and spending time with God. You just reminded me how simple it is to do both simultaneously!
i adoreee this and it’s actually something i’ve been incorporating and being mindful of lately!❤️
